One week later where the day had finally arrived, I woke up in the morning and prepared everything in a sleepy mood. On the road, I knew that I would be late as I keep on dragging and doing things slowly. It's bright and sunny when my dad finally managed to send me there after searching for a long time. I was late for about 20 minutes and everyone else had already started their day by taking care of the old peoples. After having my attendance ticked, I tried my best to understand what I should do and started helping out.
At first, my job is to show and lead these old peoples to their seats. I had been doing this quite well as I held'em by their hands and chatted with them while carrying their heavy belongings. But after that, I started to walk out to the front the temple and welcomed these old peoples by leading them to the registration corner in the temple and then to their seats. You know what, I have never speak Cantonese for more than like 10 words maybe? But in this particular morning, I think I have spoken for more than 100 or 200 words? xD The reason why I've never speak for a long sentences is because I feel weird when speaking Cantonese but somehow I managed to communicate with them. What's more weird is, Chou Tong, who speaks Cantonese better than me, spoke Chinese with these old peoples. = . =!!
That morning at the temple, there were almost 2000 old peoples waiting to get their goodie bags. From what I have heard, some of the old peoples reached there around 6 o'clock early in the morning. =O From those lil conversation with the old peoples, I could see that they were so excited. ^.^ After having all those VIPs to speak on the stage, it's finally the time for them to take their red packets, goodie bags and their lunch. We, volunteers need to help them to carry those HEAVY goodie bags to the front of the temple. I helped quite a number of old peoples to carry until my fingers are going to break soon.
After awhile, Chou Tong and me met two aunties who are friends and they just live across the street. When we helped them to carry their goodie bags, they keeps on saying that they live near and it's on the third floor of one of the old apartments they are pointing to. We have never expected them to actually wants us to carry their things back to their house. I started to realised it when we crossed the road and I told them that we will be returning their things right after we crossed the road. One of the aunties which Chou Tong's helping was quite stubborn as she doesn't wants to stop down. We explained and explained and finally managed to convince them that we aren't allowed to help them to carry back home.
I figured out that many old peoples came by cabs, vans and buses. They came here alone, some with their friends and a few with their family member. They told me that they live in Selayang, some came from Cheras and other places that are far away. I pitied them as I asked them who's going to fetch them, they said no one's free and some told me that they live alone. =( From that moment, I am determined to do more volunteer work ( if I can ) and I swear I will never ever leave my parents alone.
That morning, starting from 7.30 until 12 something in the afternoon, I worked for 5 hours straight without any rest hours besides having my breakfast. Even though I have worked for that long and I am very tired after that, I am still very happy and satisfied with what I have done. I've always thought that all these jobs would just appear in my essay writing, but it does happen in real life and I'm doing it! It's very meaningful and it had made up my day. My mood have become quite happy after that. Not being regret for coming~ ^-^
After volunteering, waiting for our parents ∩__∩ :
